The Great American Journey For Hemophilia - 1981

Exhibition Stadium

Toronto

May 29, 1981

Blue Jays 6, A's 3

We received great news, the proposed players strike was delayed until at least June 12th. Heavy traffic driving into Toronto. In the parking lot we met Rock Cluff of CBC, who announces Blue Jay games. During the game he talks about our trip on the radio broadcast. We found out about this because Carm’s brother, Jeff, and his cousin, Kam, hear it on the radio. We got free tickets and field passes again, though we didn’t meet any players. Jeff and Kam had no idea where we were sitting, but found us almost immediately among the crowd of 16,504.
Our names were posted on the scoreboard during the game. Turned out to be a memorable game. A’s manager, Billy Martin, got ejected from home plate umpire, Terry Cooney. Martin, bumps into Cooney, kicks dirt on him and throws dirt on him. Much to our chagrin, no beer was sold at the stadium! Danny Ainge executes a perfect suicide bunt with the large John Mayberry barreling down the third base line. In the parking lot after the game, Jeff signs The Babe. Also, a guy stops by and asks us when are we going to be in Detroit. We said on Monday. He handed us his business card and said to stop by to see him then.
