Born in Trinidad. Went to HS in Bisbee, Arizona. Spent seventeen seasons in professional baseball from 1935 to 1951. Was in spring training with the St. Louis Cardinals in March 1939 when his jaw was fractured after he was struck with a thrown ball. Suffered from a stomach ailment that rendered him ineligible to serve in the military in 1944. Saw a great deal of playing opportunity when Stan Musial was serving in the military. Put together his best season with the Cardinals in 1945 and finished 18th in voting for the MVP Award. He finished the season hitting .292 with 20 HRs and 109 RBIs helping the Cardinals to their second-place finish, just three games behind the Cubs. His 101 RBI with the Cardinals was a record for a Cardinals center fielder until 1987 (Willie McGee). Playing time and numbers reduced when the majority of major leaguers returned from the war in 1946 Recorded a .979 fielding percentage playing at all three outfield positions. 1947 led league CFs in POs and errors. Finished his twelve-year minor league run in 1951 in the PCL with a career .280 batting average in 5,151 at-bats. He also had 169 home runs and played in 1,503 games.

The only Negro League ballplayer born in CO. Began his baseball career at the age of 15, playing for the White Elephants, the longest-lasting African-American team in Colorado. In 1922, at just 17 years old, Anderson left the White Elephants to play for the Kansas City Monarchs who discovered him when they were barnstorming through Denver. His career also included stops with the Washington Potomacs, Birmingham Black Barons and the Indianapolis ABCs. Had 99 career hits. He later served in the United States Army during World War II. Died at age 38. Buried at Fairmont Cemetary. Named to Colo Sports HoF in ’25.

A born again Christian, he initially wanted to become a pastor after high school. He grew up a Colorado Rockies fan. In 2017, played for the Tennessee Smokies where he was named a Southern League All-Star.
Made his major league debut in his hometown of Denver on April 21, 2018, playing for the Chicago Cubs against the Rockies and collected a double off Tyler Anderson. He had a great game on June 5th, in a 9-8 win over the Colorado Rockies, as he homered and drove in 7 runs. Played every position except C and CF.. Had two walk-off HRs in rookie season.

Born in Colorado Springs. Graduated from Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kansas. Played collegiate summer baseball with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaska Baseball League. Was named first team All-Big 12 after batting .359 with 79 hits, 49 runs scored, and 19 stolen bases. Selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 8th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of Kansas State University. 2022 season, the Indians had become the Cleveland Guardians. He hit .357 in 11 games in his late-season call-up.
On May 22, 2023, accidentally hit and killed a bird with a batted ball during a game against the Chicago White Sox. The following day, he hit a home run which he dedicated to the memory of the bird. He finished the 2023 season with a .266/.299/.356 slash line, five home runs, 41 RBI, and 13 stolen bases across 138 total games.

Drafted out of Columbine High School (Littleton, CO) in the 9th round of the 1980 Amateur Draft by the Atlanta Braves. initially bypassed his opportunity to play professional baseball and chose to attend the University of Arkansas, where he played baseball and football (under coach Lou Holtz). Transferred to Colorado Mesa University (Grand Junction, CO) to focus on baseball and was drafted again in 1983, this time he was taken in the 1st round (7th overall) by the Seattle Mariners. Traded multiple times and ultimately played at the Major League level for 4 teams, making his debut with Oakland in 1986 and finding the most success with Philadelphia in 1990, pitching to a 3.77 ERA over 93 innings. Hired by the Padres to be a pitching coach in the minor league system in 1997, Joined the Padres big league staff in 2001 and continued to coach until 2012, even while battling pancreatic cancer. Passed away during the 2012 season and players symbolically carried his jersey from the bullpen to the team’s dugout prior to their game on June 24th, 2012.

Moved into coaching and was a pitching coach for the FCL Orioles in 2024.
Is part Native American and a member of the Chickasaw tribe, as his great-grandfather was born on a reservation in Oklahoma and moved to Colorado after serving in the military in World War II.

Lone highlight of his time in the major leagues did not come on the mound but at the plate. On May 1, 1928, he became the sixth American League pitcher to hit a pinch-hit home run, joining the likes of Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson.
Died on the same day as Elvis Presley.

Became a pitching coach for the GCL Pirates in 2014 and Bradenton Marauders 2015.

In 2003, won the AL Cy Young Award, going 22-7 (.759), pitching in 36 games and 266 innings with a 3.25 ERA. With Toronto, between 2003 and 2009, finished in the top 5 in Cy Young voting 5 times and was an All-Star 6 times. In 2010, he pitched the 20th perfect game in major league history and pitched a no-hitter in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Cincinnati Reds and won his 2nd Cy Young award. Career record of 203-105 with and ERA of 3.38 and WAR of 65.4. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 in his first year of eligibility.

This remains the all-time major league rookie record by a wide margin and was Dodgers all-time franchise record until 2023, when it was broken by Freddie Freeman. All time MLB single season leader in 2B, R, BA, OPS for a CO born player; Set a Dodgers rookie record for most leadoff HRs in season, a record that was not matched until 2015 by Joc Pederson; In ’32, hit six pinch-hit home runs, setting a major league record that stood for 68 years (Dave Hansen 2000). Career as a pinch-hitter, 21-70 with 8 HRs and 25 RBI.Had only 176Ks in 3,102 career MLB at-bats. In 2005 he was elected to the PCL Hall of Fame. Was 27 during his rookie season. Career was cut short by a leg injury.
