First round draft pick (2nd overall after Mike Ivie) out of Stanford by the Indians in 1970. Born in Denver. Was the second player ever to go straight to the Major Leagues after being drafted without spending a day in the minors (Mike Adamson – Orioles in 1967). Was the last American League pitcher to hit a grand slam before the introduction of the designated hitter doing so May 11, 1971. The next such grand slam was by Felix Hernandez on June 23, 2008. Was the 1975 Pitcher of the Year American Association Denver Bears with a 15-9 record. Became an attorney in 1982. His wife Kim was on Tic Tac Dough in 1983 and won over $10K.

Pitched in 6 major league games for the Cleveland Indians in 1991. Injuries throughout his career limited his career, including torn rotator cuffs, a broken right hand, and missing the 1992 season due to to fuse two of his cervical vertebrae. Went to Denver East High School, Merced Junior College, and UC-Santa Barbara. He was drafted by the Indians in 1986 in the 5th round. After his career he became a minor-league pitching coach in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Chosen by the Astros in the first round (25th overall) of the 1994 Major League Baseball draft when he was 18 years old. Made his MLB debut against in 1998 at 22 years old. In 2000, went 17-7 and was Astros pitcher fo the year. No other pitcher on the team won more than 8 games. Briefly held one very obscure all-time record: most consecutive starts of six innings or fewer – he pitched exactly seven innings on September 22, 2001, and again on July 28, 2004; in between, he had 28 starts of six or under. With the Rockies in 2001, he finished the season at fifth-worst in the NL in home runs allowed (34) and eighth-worst in earned runs allowed (104). Became a pitching coach for the GCL Pirates in 2014 and Bradenton Marauders 2015.

Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round of the 1998 MLB June Amateur Draft from James Monroe HS (North Hills, CA). Later played the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).

Broke into the majors with the Brooklyn Robins in 1929, led the league w/ 52 doubles. This remains the all-time major league rookie record by a wide margin and was Dodgers all-time franchise record until 2023, when it was broken by Freddie Freeman. That season, batted .328 with 206 hits, leading team with 24 HR, 127 runs and OPS of .917. One of four Dodgers players to ever finish a season with that many hits and runs. All time MLB single season leader in 2B, R, BA, OPS for a CO born player; Set a Dodgers rookie record for most leadoff HRs in season, a record that was not matched until 2015 by Joc Pederson; In ’32, hit six pinch-hit home runs, setting a major league record that stood for 68 years (Dave Hansen 2000). Career as a pinch-hitter, 21-70 with 8 HRs and 25 RBI.Had only 176Ks in 3,102 career MLB at-bats. In 2005 he was elected to the PCL Hall of Fame; Managed the Portland Beavers; Was 27 during his rookie season. Career was cut short by a leg injury.

Graduate of Thomas Jefferson HS in Denver where he lettered in baseball and golf. Selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 35th round of the 2011 amateur draft but did not sign, opting to attend the University of Evansville instead where he was an All-American. Taken by the Colorado Rockies in the first round of the 2014 amateur draft with the eighth overall pick. Made the Rockies’ pitching staff out of spring training in 2017 and was a winner in his debut on April 7th, which was the Rockies’ home opener. In 2018, finished the year at 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA, becoming the first Rockies starting pitcher with a sub-3.00 ERA since Ubaldo Jimenez in 2010 finishing 4th in the NL Cy Yound Award voting. In 2018 set the single-season Rockies record for home ERA at 2.40 Was the Rockies’ starter in the 2018 Wild Card Game 13-inning win over the Cubs. Pitched in 2 games for the United States team in the 2023 WBC. Has been the Rockies Opening Day starting pitcher five times so far.

Was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2010 amateur draft opting not to sign and go to LSU instead. Made the majors in 2013, less than a year after being 4th pick overall by Baltimore in a stacked 2012 amateur draft. Made MLB debut on May 23,2013 vs Toronto. 2-time All-Star (2021 & 2023), Eclipsed 200k mark 3 times, leading the league in 2023. In 2022, was the first player since 1903 (Cy Young) to neither allow a HR or a walk through his first five starts of a season. Finished top 10 in the AL Cy Young Award voting in ’21, ’22, ’23.Has a habit of eating powdered mini-donuts during his starts as a means of keeping up his energy level. His brother Brian Gausman played in the minors.

With Toronto, between 2003 and 2009, finished in the top 5 in Cy Young voting 5 times and was an All-Star 6 times. In 2010, he pitched the 20th perfect game in major league history and pitched a no-hitter in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Cincinnati Reds and won his 2nd Cy Young award.
